In a recent video by the Lock Picking Lawyer, an experienced lock enthusiast, the focus was on the Squire Model 39 CS padlock, a lock that is produced and mainly sold in the UK market. This particular model was provided by Joshua from Great Yarmouth, England, reportedly an older variant as the newer models tend to have a blue interior.

This padlock boasts a laminated and riveted steel body shrouded by a zinc shell, accompanying a 10 mm thick boron alloy shackle secured with a ball-bearing mechanism. While these features speak of durability, the lock also incorporates a four-pin core, including some spooled security pins, which the Lock Picking Lawyer finds somewhat underwhelming given its price point of approximately £37 ($46.50).

The highlight of the video is the lock’s vulnerability to picking, which the Lock Picking Lawyer demonstrated efficiently. Using a 40,000s thick tension wrench and an MC Tickler hybrid pick, he managed to pick the lock twice. The first attempt took around 34 seconds (from 70.64s to 104.52s), and confirming it wasn’t a fluke, he subsequently repeated the process, each time bypassing the lock’s defenses with seeming ease.

The lock’s construction might deter brute force methods, but in terms of picking, even though the security pins could present a minor obstacle for beginners, a skilled picker would face little challenge.
