If you thought Master Lock had fixed its glaring security flaw from 2020, think again. In a recent video, the LockPickingLawyer revisits the Master ProSeries 6271 Puck Lock to see if the company has addressed a well-documented vulnerability—and the results are disappointing, to say the least.

A Year and a Half Later, No Improvement

Back in November 2020, the LockPickingLawyer posted an urgent security alert (Video #1197) after discovering that multiple Master puck locks could be picked in mere seconds using a comb pick. Expecting that Master Lock would have addressed the issue by now, he recently purchased another lock to test it out. Unfortunately, the problem persists.

Picked Open in Just Seconds

Using the six-pin comb from his Covert Companion, he demonstrates how effortlessly the lock can be opened—twice, just to prove it wasn’t a fluke. By lifting all the pins above the shear line, the lock is rendered useless as a security device. Given that this exploit has been well-known to lock designers since the 1930s, it’s baffling that Master Lock has yet to fix it.

A Security Flaw Worthy of a Recall

For a product marketed as a high-security option, this is a major failure. The fact that such an easily preventable flaw remains in Master Lock’s design after being publicly exposed is concerning. If you’re relying on this lock for security, you may want to reconsider your options.
